Add & Remove individual Office 2013 features

So for the last week I’ve been banging my head against a brick wall (Metaphorically!)

I wanted to be able to add and remove individual Office 2013 features from an existing installation; things like Access, Publisher etc.

I’ve tried the OCT, I’ve played with MSPs and I’ve experimented with XML files – all to no avail.

I thought I’d cracked it at one point… an MSP created by the OCT removed Access 2013. Another MSP (created again with OCT) reinstalled Access 2013. Brilliant – I’ll go again to make sure… Nothing. It seems that MSPs only work on eache users profile once, see this technet conversation:

Its been really tough finding this info on the net, which was surprising.

However, I left it a few days and revisited it this afternoon. It must be XML files… nothing else for it.

I’ve used /uninstall switches, setup.exe with no switches, and I felt I was always just around the corner from a solution. And then it clicked!

Sometimes the simplest solutions are the ones we don’t think of!

I don’t need to Install or Uninstall Access 2013… I need to MODIFY the Office installation!

So here, in all their glory are my XML Files with the commands to run (These are based on deploying a full Office 2013 suite with Access 2013 installed)
